Apr 17, 2025 Season 1 Episode 13

Homethrive

Our guest today is Natalie Kime, a financial professional, public speaker, and host of the podcast Nickels and Dimes, a show dedicated to helping the sandwich generation achieve financial literacy and security.

As a caregiver for her parents, Natalie understands first-hand what caregivers need to achieve financial security, for themselves and their families.

On this episode, we cover what kind of financial policies it is smart to have for our financial futures, what health and end-of-life information we should discuss openly with our families, and what exactly we should keep in our own red folder.

You can follow Natalie on LinkedIn and Instagram. You can also contact her about her services by emailing her at natalie@nataliekmconsulting.com.

Transcript

Ali Habashi: So, I've spoken to a few people now, on the podcast and otherwise, who through their own caregiving experiences have learned a lot about how to set themselves up and their children up for success as they themselves age. ....

Natalie Kime: That is such a great question...

Of course, it was very emotional, very difficult. We didn't all see eye to eye. ...

Ali: I think that makes sense, and it doesn't compound the stress...

The Red Folder

So, the red folder contains all of the information around life insurance, long-term care, living benefits, financial products or retirement accounts you may have in place, banking information... It provides a lot of peace of mind in knowing what somebody that you care deeply for truly wants when you have to make a hard decision.

If you have dietary restrictions, they should be outlined in there...

Types of Policies to Consider

So I would say the most foundational product that you can have in your financial portfolio is a product that protects your life, your health, and your income...

Natalie now attends public speaking events...

Ali: I only have one last question here, and it seems prudent to put it at the end of our episode, but that's this: can you speak a little about the importance of planning for funeral costs?

Natalie: Yes, absolutely. You have to realize having life insurance is not the final answer...
